It is a multi-faceted and comprehensive complex for the Holy Qur’an and Islamic arts, established in 1990 in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. It is considered a cultural Islamic center visited by students and researchers, which has made it a pioneering cultural institution with its own independent entity, objectives, and policy to serve the Holy Book of God
The House of the Quran houses a museum containing numerous copies and manuscripts of the Holy Quran. It is considered one of the most famous Islamic museums in the world. It was designed in the old Islamic style dating back to the 12th century. The idea of establishing it was conceived by Dr. Abdul Latif Jassim Kanoo in 1984, whose rare collection of Quranic copies and manuscripts was the main reason behind his idea to establish the House of the Quran. The House of the Quran was established with full support from donations and charitable aid from various segments of society and from some Arab countries. The complex and museum were opened in 1990 and are currently managed as an independent entity affiliated with the Bahraini Ministry of Culture
The museum houses approximately 10,000 copies and manuscripts of the Qur’an, including the first copy of the Holy Qur’an printed in Germany in 1694 AD, the oldest translation of the meanings of the Qur’an into Latin, printed in Switzerland in 955 AH, and other rare copies
